The recent nearly $900k grant to to create the Presidential Innovation Lab to determine processes to support MOOC’s is the next important step in bringing out-of-control higher ed expenses to ground, and in a way that enhances the educational product.   Over time, MOOC’s will eliminate the thousands of ‘101’ courses repeated in every campus in America, many offered with less than stellar instruction.  MOOCs can enable the basics to be taught by the best teachers in America and broadcast to thousands of students at once, while local faculty to focus on more complex educational projects with students.  Disruptive? yes…but higher edu has been way behind the innovation curve.
