Wisconsin is plowing the way to competentcy – based higher ed rather than the old model of counting how many hours one has to have ‘butts in seats’ to determine course credit. Wisconsin is also implementing a concept I experimented with a few years ago, breaking the course into units so that you can test out of the things you know and really focus on what you need to learn. Think of it as mass-customization in the higher ed world. Today’s students just won’t continue to accept a one-sized fits all college curriculum–costing the equivalent of a house–when in all other areas of their life they get curated content specific to their informational needs. Looking forward to seeing how well and quickly they can execute!
